Breathing Exercises for Elevation Training
Planning a hiking or running trip that involves elevation soon?
Research shows you can use specific breathing exercises to help your body become more efficient at performing in areas with lower oxygen levels (aka high elevation).
Not all of us can go train in Colorado - so breathing it is!
Here’s how it works:
-Walk or run for about a minute while only breathing through your nose
-Then, pinch your nose shut and continue walking or running until you’re needing a breath.
-Once you unpinch your nose, start breathing at half your normal pace for 15 seconds.
-Resume normal breathing and repeat this cycle about 10 minutes.
Now, this isn’t medical advice and please be careful with this :)
And if you’re interested in learning more about how breathwork can change your health, this concept is from the book Breathe by James Nestor. I highly recommend it!
Until next time,
